Synopsis

L'histoire se déroule dans la ville fictive américaine Elwood City, elle se concentre sur l'éducation, la vie sociale et culturelle d'Arthur, de sa famille et de ses amis. Le personnage principal est Arthur Timothé Read, c'est un oryctérope âgé de 8 ans, il est en troisième année (CE2) à l'école élémentaire de Lakewood dans la classe de M.Ratburn. Son meilleur ami est Buster Baxter, ils se connaissent depuis la maternelle. Arthur a aussi plein d'autres amis avec qui il vit beaucoup d'aventures. Il vit dans une maison avec sa famille composée de son père David qui travaille comme chef cuisinier, de sa mère Jane qui est comptable, de ses deux sœurs cadettes, Diminou qui est à l'école maternelle (et qui adore embêter Arthur), et Kate, qui est encore un bébé. Arthur a un chien, Pal. D'autres personnes de sa famille interviennent selon les épisodes. Chaque personnage intervenant dans l'histoire tient un rôle qui influence les évènements.
